As many of you have likely seen in the news over the past few years, the Old Orchard Beach licensing process has been one of the most complicated and drawn-out in the state. In November 2020, OOB citizens overwhelmingly voted to allow an Adult Use store. Unfortunately, several Town Councilors and Town Staff, motivated by personal bias against cannabis, did everything they could to delay and deny that store from opening.
When the Town could no longer delay the process, they awarded a license to Theory Wellness, despite the company having no rights to the building they applied for. Beach Boys, the sole master tenant with full rights to the property, was left without a license—making it impossible for either company to realistically operate. Ultimately, the Town granted Theory an extra point on their application due to their out-of-state operations, which secured them the only recreational license in OOB.
After multiple lawsuits over the past two years involving all three applicants and the Town, we were faced with a difficult decision: continue costly litigation—forcing OOB taxpayers to foot the bill for defending the missteps of town officials—or create an arrangement that allows Beach Boys to finally operate in the building we’ve controlled since 2021. Our arrangement with Theory was the only viable path to remain a local operator in OOB, with our local staff and long-standing relationships with Maine’s best growers and suppliers.
This is not a partnership, joint venture, or collaboration. You’ll still find the same laid-back vibes, curated Maine-grown products, and trusted faces you’ve come to know from our South Portland and (former) medical OOB locations.

Is the Beach Boys South Portland (SoPo) location changing to 21+ recreational?
Nope — our South Portland shop will remain medical-only for the foreseeable future. We’re proud of the community we’ve built there and will continue to serve our medical patients with a wide selection of premium, local cannabis products you won’t find just anywhere.
Need a med card? We’ve got you. We partner with Beach Health Center to host regular pop-up events at both locations where you can get a new or renewed medical card quickly and affordably.
And just a heads up — if you’re a med card holder, you’ll get a discount at our rec shop in Old Orchard Beach.

What hours are you open?
BB BEACH CLUB: 21+ Recreational Weed Shop in OOB will be open 7 days a week from 10am to 7pm
BB SOPO Medical Cannabis Dispensary is open 8am-7pm Monday thru Friday, 10am- 7pm Saturday, and CLOSED ON SUNDAY. -
Are gift cards and promotions valid at all Beach Boys locations?
As of August 2025, our gift cards and promotions are location-specific for our med OR rec locations — so be sure to use them at the shop where they were issued.
That means:
• Gift cards purchased at our med shops in SoPo or OOB are only valid at our South Portland medical location
• Gift cards are coming soon to our OOB Beach Club (recreational location) and will only be valid for our Old Orchard Beach rec shopSame goes for promos and discounts — each shop runs its own deals based on licensing, inventory, and customer base. If you’re not sure where your deal applies, just ask one of our budtenders — we’ve got you.

How do my BB loyalty points transfer & am I able to use them for the rec shop?
Loyalty points earned through our medical shops in South Portland or Old Orchard Beach are still valid at our South Portland medical location.
However, our new rec shop—the Beach Club in OOB—does not issue or redeem loyalty points.That said, there are still plenty of ways to save at the Beach Club:
• “Locals Only” Beach Club membership
• Valid med-card discounts at our rec location
• Daily deals and rotating promosWe appreciate our regulars and always aim to keep the vibes high.

Do you offer delivery?
Not yet—but soon! Delivery is in the works and we expect to launch our service in about 2 months. We’ll be offering fast, friendly, and discreet delivery from our OOB location straight to your door.
